CASE STUDY
Improving Birth and Health Outcomes Through Equitable Maternal and Child Health Policy
In partnership with the Birth Equity Community Council and MN Prenatal to Three (PN-3) Coalition, we targeted a critical issue: persistent unequal maternal health and birth outcomes in Minnesota’s Black and Indigenous communities. By identifying and passing policy solutions and leveraging successful strategies, we engaged state and community leaders to increase healthcare support during pregnancy and childbirth for at-risk communities.

Advancing a Racial Equity Action Plan for Parent Aware: MN’s Quality Rating and Improvement System for Childcare
The Minnesota Department of Human Services enlisted our help to address the issue of the state’s quality rating system not effectively supporting children of color and their care providers. After an assessment by the state agency, a community-led effort identified key strategies to advance racial equity within the rating system. Now, state and local leaders are working together on an action plan to better support caregivers and the families they serve.

Strengthening Fatherhood Through Community Partnership
In partnership with the Birth Equity Community Council (BECC) and local father leaders connected through Saint Paul–Ramsey County Public Health, we helped develop the Fatherhood Guide – a practical resource designed to support fathers in navigating pregnancy, parenting, advocacy, and family wellbeing. Grounded in the lived experiences and leadership of fathers, the guide offers information on parenting, child development, legal rights and responsibilities, mental wellness, community resources, and strategies for advocating for children and families. This work reflects our commitment to ensuring fathers are recognized, supported, and equipped to play an active role in the health and wellbeing of their children and communities.
